Why You Love That Music

Why have Ed Sheeran's “Shape of You” and Dua Lipa's “New Rules” become worldwide hits? The project explores the reason why you love the music by studying the data from people around the world what are they listening to, and how often do they listen to each song.

Based on the weekly global top 200 music data from Spotify Charts from 2017 to April 20, 2018, we have analyzed 13 audio features of each song and visualized the pattern with Google Charts and d3. An interactive storytelling website has been created for people to learn about our discovery, play with the visualization, and start the discussion.
